Isn’t he the handsome fellow? He happens to reside at Drakes Beach Visitors Center along with a lot of interesting exhibits.
Sir Francis Drake landed on this beach to make repairs before heading for home to England.
This is the visitors center and part of the beach.
Angel wasn’t allowed on Drakes Beach, but was allowed on North and South Beaches that we visited on the way back home.
Also on the the way back we had to check out the Cypress Tunnel. At the end of the tunnel is a former radio station where the first transmission from Pearl Harbor reporting the attack on December 7, 1941 by the Japanese.
About two weeks ago we had a pretty scary situation going on here at the Campground. It was my day off and when I got back to the park around 5 pm, I found the power to the whole park was off. We were originally told it would be back on before 9 pm. That was before the lookout up on Barnaby Peak reported a wildfire. It wasn’t long before the firefighters were using our entrance as their staging area.
I took these pictures from in front of my Motorhome.
This picture isn’t very good, but the lights in the upper right hand corner are the flames seen through the trees and at the bottom left is where all the fire department vehicles were. Up on the hill were the ground crews fighting the fire. The fire was started by downed power lines. The campground was in no danger during the fire. I was helping by relaying information to the campers and other visitors regarding the status of the fire so that they wouldn’t get in the way of fire personnel.
It was midnight before I got to bed. We finally got power on Wednesday evening.
Heritage Day at China Camp.
Last Saturday was Heritage Day at China Camp where I was a vendor. There were all kinds of activities going on. We were visited by a Fire Boat spraying water.
I also did face painting. This was one of the little girls who wanted an orange cat.
I did fairly well with sales, but could have done better if I could have taken credit cards.
I’m still camp hosting at Samuel P Taylor State Park. The duties differ from those at China Camp. Here I help out in the Kiosk checking in Campers and for day use visitors. The main thing that I do is to sell firewood. I will also use the John Deere Gator to drive through the campground to check what sites are occupied or not. Angel gets to go with me. She always gets excited when I ask if she wants to go to work.She wears her uniform and loves to interact with the campers, mainly the kids.
It’s been busy this week. There sometimes when I’m the only one here. Some of the Park Aides have gone,( end of season or back to school). So we’re short staffed. The camp host by the cabins will be leaving on Monday and the new one won’t be here for a couple of weeks.

Yes, another one has flow by. It flies by when you’re having fun.
A few days before my Grandson graduated from Army Boot Camp. His mom flew to South Carolina for the ceremony, then he’s off to Georgia for more training.
We’re all very proud of him.
On Friday, my Granddaughter and I took a day trip to Limantour Beach at Point Reyes. I didn’t realize that it was 1/4 mile to the actual beach. I decided to sit at a picnic bench at the entrance and do a mini watercolor. Lyza took Angel to run in the water. She said that Angel was looking for me all the time they were gone.
While painting, I was visited by this jay.
Yes. I had to work on my Birthday. Most of the day I was in the Motorhome cleaning the refrigerator and defrosting the freezer. I also made (what I call) Gottago in my pressure cooker. It turned out really good. I have enough for several more meals. I’ll have to do this more often.
Later the Park Rangers brought in pizza and some fruit salad. When Lyza got off work she brought the cake. She thought that I should have family here on my birthday, since Ted couldn’t be here. We called him on facetime so they both could sing before I blew out the candles.

Well, that’s what’s been happening this past week. The campground is full for the Holiday. I’m available for firewood sales.The weather is perfect, although a bit chilly this morning. I hope that you all are having a great weekend. Take care!

I am finally at Samuel P Taylor State Park. I was supposed to be here in mid July. However, I have had problems with my Motorhome. It wouldn’t start! I was working with a mobile repair man. What a big mistake! He was able to get it started, but it couldn’t be driven. It just wouldn’t run. I spent more time waiting for him than he was there to do any work. Fortunately I remembered that I had roadside assistance for towing and had an extended warranty on the MH. After so much frustration, I made alternate arrangements. So on Monday the August 6th, I had Diego Brothers’ Truck Repair come to get it at China Camp State Park. While they had it I stayed at my son’s apartment in San Francisco. Thank you, Ted and Mark (his roommate) for your hospitality.I was there for 3 nights. After Ted was done at work on Thursday, he drove the MH to the park and helped me set it up, connecting all the hookups and leveling. Thank you Ted you are a great help.
While I was in the city, I drove around a little to see what I could see and of course Angel had to see the sights too. I was able to do a little bit of painting during the day. It was fun to go places I haven’t been.
First one is the Golden Gate Bridge from Fort Miley near Land’s End, the second one was of Alcatraz from just outside of the Warming Hut at Crissy Field.
I have also been purging in the processing of downsizing. I even have purged some of Angel’s things. She won’t miss her fencing or her wire crate
That stack of stuff on the right is just the beginning. So much more has followed to the thrift store and community center as donations.
Before I left China Camp I met a fellow RVer through RVillage. She was house sitting for some friends in San Rafael. Below is the view from where she parked her rig;
She has a Class B RV. It is what I want to downsize to. Thank you, Joannie for the tour and friendship. Hopefully we will be able to meet again soon.
Now that I am not at China Camp, my granddaughter is living in her van fulltime. She really likes it. It saves her a lot of money. Every now and again she will come out to visit Angel and me. This park is really beautiful. I’m located close to the creek.

On one of my days off I took a ride out to Tomales Bay State Park and the Point Reyes Lighthouse. There is a sandy beach at the State Park even if it is a long drive to reach it. It was an even longer drive to the lighthouse and very boring. When I got there it was closed (which I knew about). I was hoping I could at least take some pictures, but it was way too foggy.
This deer was one of several that I spotted near the road near the coast. On the road to and from the lighthouse goes right through some dairy ranches with lots of cattle.
I took some time to paint the mini watercolor of My Spot II.
I guess that gets me sort of caught up to date I hope that you all are doing fine and having a great summer
