My Truck and Internet Have Joined Me at the 5’er

Sunday, while my son Ted was here to move the heavy Stuff to storage he also got the TV working and found a truck at Folsom Lake Dodge (that’s where he got his PU).  We took it out for a test drive, and he talked with one of his friends in Dodge Truck Club to see if it would be a good tow vehicle for me.  He saw no problems, so I bought it.  I now have a 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 diesel PU to tow my 2007 Big Horn Fifth Wheel.  Yea!

That’s Carlos, me, Chris and Brian, (the sales team).  Great guys and fun to work with. (Ted took the picture)  Part of the deal was to include a  big bucket with a bunch of product to detail the truck to protect the finish and will need to schedule that.   I still need to get a hitch, the rails and wiring are already there.  Now I’ll have to do some research as to which one to get.

Today, Robert with ATT hooked up my phone service and internet.  He called while I was at work to let me know that he was on his way.  When I got home and tried the phone, NO DIAL TONE.  I called the number back and Robert said that he would come back.  He wasn’t able to connect any wire to the 5’er.  When he came back I unlocked basement for access  and one of my neighbors supplied a long enough wire for the connection.  Thank you, John.  I now have DIAL TONE and INTERNET.  Yea!   A BIG Thank You to Robert for coming back to finish the job and also giving me a bit of First Aid.

Yes, I christened the 5’er with blood, my own,  Of course, I knew that I would do it sooner or later, banging my head on the corner of the bedroom slide was not a pleasant experience.  There was a lot of blood out of a tiny cut.  I guess that I had better split one of the swim noodles and put it on the edge.

This is a short post because I need to get to bed, one more work day to go.  Hopefully this weekend I can finish over at the Mobile.

Still Sorting, Pic’s

                                  DSC00308

I may be moved into my 5’er, but there is still a whole lot of STUFF that has to be sorted and dispersed.  Most will not make it to the RV, but it should go somewhere else.   My son will be here Sunday to help move the business equipment and armoires to storage.  I still am amazed at how much can be put into this RV.  I know that a lot that I have moved, I really don’t need and will have to purge.  I guess that is all part of the process of moving from one life style to another.

Gypsy and others have asked for pictures, so here they are.  The above picture is the view from the street.

I still haven’t put the awning out.  It’s way up there, so I’ll wait till this weekend to put it out.  If you look close, you can see Angel sitting on the bench.  The last one shows how close my neighbor is to me.  Most of the residents here are '”long term”.  The shed in the back has been taken down but they will clean up what’s left soon.

                                               Welcome To My Kitchen

I have more counter space than I had in the doublewide and almost as much storage.

Dining Room                      Bedroom             &           Living Room

In the living room I have Angel’s crate with a round table top with a table cloth that I use as a coffee table.  In the bedroom I have a folding wicker shelf and in the bathroom I have tall narrow shelf with baskets for more storage there.  Angel’s favorite place is on my bed, right in the middle of the pillows, where she usually hides.

                                                   DSC00305

                                                             Bathroom too.

There is so much room with all the slides out.  The only room that is crowded is the bathroom because of the shelf and I also have a digital bathroom scale that needs to be on a hard surface for it to weigh accurately.  I tried storing it on it’s side, but that won’t work.

I’ve read where a lot of people find it hard to make their beds, well I guess that it is the way it is here too.  There was a king size mattress in the bedroom with a 2” foam topper on it.  I took the mattress out and put my own queen size mattress with a double pillow top in.  I gave the original one to a resident here in the park and took the foam topper and cut it down to fit the sofa/sleeper.  Angel also has a new mattress in her crate, tent and one also in traveling crate that is in the car.  It is still tight, but I can make the bed a lot easier.  I didn’t have any linens for a king size and I tried making it before I got rid of it and I couldn’t even tuck in the sheet.  It just had to go.  Besides that, I already have linens for the queen.

With all the extra things that I have (shelves etc.), I will have to be very careful when I prepare to move and make sure that there is nothing in the way when I pull the slides in.  I am still searching for a tow vehicle and hope that I can do a maiden voyage to Pismo Beach with my son in October.

I’m back at the old place and will  finish  this post (that’s where the internet is).  I finally sold the shed, but had to take a big loss on it.  He paid cash and it is up to him to move it.   No other offers, so I at least got some money for it, otherwise I would have had to leave it.  Now if I can sell the armoires and the business, a tremendous weight will be lifted.

I will close this now, because I now have to go and do laundry. Yuck!

Moved Into My Fifth Wheel And Loving It.

                             DSC00301

I have been so busy and exhausted that I just haven’t taken the time to post anything new.  The New is that I have been moving into my Big Horn by Heartland.  (Still need  truck)  It was delivered last Friday on the 3rd of June.  (Interesting side note- I moved to California from Arizona on  the 3rd of June 12 years ago.)  I would pack up boxes, put them in the van and empty them at the RV, put everything away and start all over again, same boxes.  It is amazing how much you can put in an RV.  I can see how it is easy to be overweight.

It is so nice to finally be living in my new (to me) home.  I have been sleeping in the RV for 4 nights.  I decided to take the king size mattress out and put my own queen size in it’s place.  I also sold the rocker/recliners  to some friends that have TT, so that I have a place for my Lazy Boy recliner and and end table that I have painted. It will go to one of my granddaughters when I head that way next year.  There is also room for Angels crate for when I am at work.  She normally will sleep in the pillows on my bed or on the back of the sofa or in her tent. She has really been confused, bouncing back and forth from the old home to the new one.  She is dealing with it well,as long as she is with me she is fine.

Today the lady that bought my refrigerator, washer and dryer picked it up and finished paying for it.   I have cleaned out both bedrooms and all the closets, closed the doors.  I also cleaned out both bathrooms.  I put everything in the living room and kitchen, so that I can see what I have to contend with.  There is a lot that I can be sold. I might be able to put it into a friend yard sale.

I had to get a storage unit to keep the “care totes” that will go to my daughters, and the two armoires and business equipment that I still have.  My son will be here next weekend to help me move, it is all very heavy.

This is a short post, because I still have to attack what’s left and bring another load over to the RV.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Found Muscles That I Didn’t Know I Had

First of all I would like to wish you all a very Happy Memorial Day and to that all that have served to keep us free.

I have been really busy with the yard sale on Saturday,  The park put up 3 signs for a “Community Yard Sale”.  I put up two more of my own with my address and directional arrows.  It must have worked, because I had a lot of traffic and did better than I had hoped.  (Twice what I expected, which I attribute it to my “God Box”. )  Yesterday some other residents, on their walk stopped by.  They didn’t do as well,  maybe next year they will put up there own signs.  What is remaining is boxed up and under a tarp under the awning on my patio.

                                 DSC00280

If this is left, can you imagine what I had before?  The rest of this will go to church for the yard sale next Saturday.  Moving and lifting will build muscles, right?  I also have bruises on my arms.  Tylenol works wonders.

Sunday, I also packed up the things that my daughters asked me to save for them, after all the physical labor, I went to bed and it didn’t take long and I was asleep.

Today after breakfast, I went out with a friend for lunch and then we went out looking for a truck.  He is willing to help negotiate a price so that they won’t take advantage of me.  I need to find a truck within by budget that can tow my 5th wheel.  (16,000 pound GVWR)

Tomorrow it’s back to work, so the warm bed is calling my name.  I hope you all had a great weekend and

Back To Work, Wedding, and I Did It !!!!!

Yes I am back to work, ugggh!  It was very hard to get back into the grove.  The next 6 months are going to be rough, but I know, it will go by fast.

Thursday, I took another day off for more research and sent in my application for an RV park close by.  It is actually a little bit closer to my work.  I also met the property a manager, who seems to be really nice.  Most everyone in in the park is long term.  A few weeks ago I spoke with a couple of people that live there and they like living there.

More sorting on  Friday.  Ted arrived about 9:00 pm.

Saturday, we went to a wedding.  Ted was their photographer and I helped with the reception that they had right after the ceremony.  We also went to the dinner that they had at a local Italian Restaurant.  Wonderful food and of course I ate too much.

Another reason that Ted came was to get all his things that he had in the shed and his closet here in the house.  The main things that he took were a grandfather’s clock that he inherited from his grandmother and my chest freezer.

                                                The “ I Did It !!!!!!! “

I am now the owner of an RV.  At least I will be when I get a check from my 401K to them to pay for it.

                                    DSC00262

The PDI is scheduled for Friday the 3rd of June.  I know that it should take about 3 hours, but will probably be longer for me because I will keep asking questions until I understand how it all works.  It will be just me that will be there.  My son was here to help me.  He went through  everything and checked it all out.

I signed a contract to purchase a 2007 Big Horn 5th Wheel by Heartland.   It is 38'3"long ,8'0", 12’12” high, 4 slides, Quad Slide, Rear Living Area w/2 Rocker/Gliders w/End Table, Comp. Desk/Entertainment, Center w/Opt. Fireplace, Hide-A-Bed Sofa, Dinette Table & Chairs, Lg. Counter, Double Sink, 3 Burner Range, Refrigerator, Pantry, Side Isle Bath w/Angle Shower, Lav., Double Bath Entrance, King Bed Slide, Walk-In Closet & More.

Yes, that’s me and Angel in our new home.

DSC00241  DSC00266  DSC00267

They will be delivering it to the park for me.  I don’t have a tow vehicle yet.  I’m searching for a 350 diesel, 4X4.  There are several people helping with the search.

The rest of today Ted helped me empty the Shed and move all of the furniture out onto the patio under the awning to get ready for the yard sale next weekend.  The rest of the week after work, will be getting the rest of the STUFF sorted and priced.

I sure hope that this isn’t too big for me to handle.  I will learn!

Thank you all for visiting and being there too.

Busy, Busy,Busy

                              DSC00223

It’s been really busy this past week.  I’ve been off all week on “vacation”.  I have been going through STUFF.  I did take some time to go to the Scottish Highland Games in Woodland CA last Saturday.  It’s fun to watch all the swirling kilts and listening to the bagpipes and fiddles.  The entertainers and food was good too.  Have you had your haggis today?

                                                                                 ( half eaten )

I also stopped by my clan’s tent and donated some books and a couple of painted valances.

                                     DSC00222

It was a normal Sunday, church and I had to do something, but for the life of me I cannot remember what it was.  I must be having a “senior moment”.

Monday Linda came over to help me go through all my art things.  I sorted out what I want to keep (trying to keep it to one bucket).  I donated a large bag of Artist’s Magazines to the local high school art department.  More sorting to be done.

Tuesday, Marti (Gypsy) and I met for lunch and then took a look of a couple of local RV parks and another RV dealer on Folsom Blvd.  There were a couple of Class As that were nice and within my budget, still looking.  We parted wishing each other happy and safe travels.  Then for me it was back home to more cleaning and sorting.

Wednesday, doctor appointment and more of the same.

Today I found a fifth wheel that I really like and the price was in my budget, only I can’t make any decisions for another week or so.  Does anyone have a Cameo by Carriage?  It has everything that I want and plenty of storage in the basement.

I was planning on going to meet Marikay at the RV Show in Pleasanton on Friday, but plans have changed and we won’t be going, although we will get together one of these days.  Instead I will be getting everything ready for the yard sale, sorting and pricing.

Next week on Monday I will have to go back to work. I sure  am not looking forward to that, but it is necessary.

It is late and I need to get to bed.   I hope that you all have a great weekend.

Catching Up

SUNDAY

I guess that it is time that get another post in.  I’ve been working as usual and have been busy going through more stuff.  I am trying to sort some of it for my kids and setting aside a box for each of them. They don’t want much, but I may have to find a place to store the boxes until I travel that way.  Two daughters are in Arizona and the other one is in Texas.  My son will be taking his stuff later this month.  I’m also trying to use up everything that I have in the refrigerator and freezer and not going to the store unless I have to get something that I absolutely have to have.  Someone has decided that they want the washer, dryer and fridge.  They will give me a deposit in a couple of weeks and will pay the rest when they pick it up when I move into an RV.

More details in the near future regarding an RV.  I will be actively looking for one after May 20th.  In the meantime I will be off work for the next two weeks so that I can get ready for the annual yard sale that they have here in the mobile home park where I live.  It is on the 28th of May and then there is the yard sale at church the next week on the 4th of June.  I hope to be rid of everything by then.  In the meantime I will put an ad in the “Penny Saver”.  I’m not sure that I want to put anything on Craig’s List (safety reasons), but I have been spreading the word.

It is getting real close and it is a bit scary.  It will be a big change in my life.  The plan is to get a 5th wheel and put it into a park and continue to work until early next year.  This will give me time to transition into this lifestyle.  I will learn how to live in an RV, how the systems work and monitoring my usage of water, propane as well as space. I will later get a truck and then take some short trips to get to know how to handle the whole thing.  It will also give me time to line up a workamping job for next year.  At least that is the plan.

WEDNESDAY

Time just is going by so fast. I took off this week and next week as vacation so that I can get all this stuff done.  Monday someone came over to look at the printer and heat press.  Hopefully they will take them off my hands along with all the product that goes along with them.  It’s a really good deal.  Then Tuesday I took my van to the dealer to find out why the A/C wasn’t working.  It took all day. After I was there for five hours they got the OK for a one day rental car.  This morning when I picked the van up I was so glad that I have an extended warranty, otherwise it would have cost $766.00.

Today I brought some books on watercolor to my former art class to see if they would like them.  One more stack of books, GONE!  One day next week Linda will come over to help me go through my art supplies to see if there is anything that can be used in her classes.

I guess that I had better get to bed so that I can get an early start in the morning. There is so much to do in a short period of time.
