Busy, Busy, Busy, Where Do The Days Go?

This was last week, outside my door,

                                   Today, Sunny and hot!

Yesterday, was a very busy day.  There are over 108 vehicles on the log sheets.  I have lost a day somewhere, it all just runs together.  In and out of the 5ver, or stay outside in the shade, of which there isn’t much of any, only under the bedroom, but then it is hard to see what’s coming and going, so I just listen for the bell alarm.  I’m not putting out my awning as it is difficult for me to do by myself.

Yes it is extremely tiring especially from the heat.  Just so that I don’t miss the alarm, I have been sleeping in the recliner.  I t is kind of weird because I will see something out of the corner of my eye and it is a a big truck waiting to be let in, so I jump up to let them in, but when I get to the door there isn’t anyone there.  I’m already dreaming about trucks and gates. ( 125, 250, 375, 500,)  Yesterday, one of the truck drivers asked if I needed anything from the store,so I asked if he could bring me some ice.  When he came back, he actually remembered and wouldn’t let me pay for it,   Thank you Raymond, aka Rooster.

Then last night at nearly midnight,  I did hear the alarm and went out to let him in, but I had taken my boots off and slipped down the stairs, hanging on to the hand rail, but couldn’t stop and went all the way down.  Javier was there to help me up,but I hurt my right wrist..  I could move it and it didn’t feel broken, but I wasn’t sure, so I came in and put some ice on it.  the company’s security guard happened to be checking out the rig, so he took a report and fixed it so that the gate is easier to open.  I told him that I would wait until morning to see what I would do.  I called Roger, my supervisor and asked if he could get an ACE bandage for me.  He was out about a couple of hours later and wrapped it.  He also gave me a first aid kit.  I already had one, it just didn’t have the elastic bandage in it. I have kept ice on it most of the day. and I am able to still wright and type, albeit slower than normal, so it must not be broken, probably a bad sprain or strain..  It’s a good thing he brought that ice!

That’s how I kept the ice in place all day.

All of a sudden, I am getting all these text and FB messages wishing me Happy Mothers. Day.  I thought that it was still Saturday.  I hope that you all are enjoying this holiday and that if you can, you spend it  with family, especially MOM.

                                          HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY

Today it started out a little bit busy.  I thought that it would have been busier, because they were supposed to bring the rig in today.  They did.  WOW is that thing humongous. It telescope out and should be somewhere around 120 feet high.

So far today, I don’t think that I have had 50 vehicles.  But it is still tiring because of the heat and so little sleep last night.. From what I am told once the derrick is up and they start the fracking process, it will  be nonstop, mostly water, sand and mud trucks.

                       This is the Fracking Tank.

That’s the update,     ( 125, 250, 375, 500,)

Thanks for visiting

  1. Sorry to hear about your wrist. I'm thinking of having my awning taken off and an automatic awning installed. Wow, you sure are busy, how long do you think you can stay here and work these long hours? I read that they pay good, but it's too bad there isn't someone to relieve you for a few hours. Maybe you can have some type of wooden steps/decking built to make it easier to get outside. I hate RV steps. I have seen this done at some RV parks where people stay for the entire winter.

    1. The wrist still hurts a bit but it is getting better. I would love to get an automatic awning but it costs a lot, but with me making some money, I mihgt be able to do that. I am hoping that I can do it for four months, to make enough to pay the tax bill and the taxes on what I make and some extra.
The boss man sent someone over to measure for some stairs. I hope that works out.

  2. Oh my goodness...I sure hope your wrist gets better fast. That must be a most difficult job - when do you rest?

    1. The job is easy, its the 24/7 that is hard. Fortunately I usually get only 5 or 6 hours a night and not always un interupted anyway. It hasn't been too bad. Once they get to the fracking part, that's when it will be hard, trucks will be coming in continually for 5 or 6 days. I just try to get what I can at night and then some power naps during the day.

  3. I'm so sorry you were hurt. I hope your hand feels better soon. I slid down my steps one night, too. Landed on my butt, I was lucky I wasn't hurt. I've heard other people talking about slipping down their stairs, too. They don't have the normal depth like regular stairs, at least mine don't. I have to step out sideways and be really careful.

Especially since we're traveling solo, we have to be super slow and careful when we do stuff.

I hope you get a good night's sleep tonight. You have to be able to sleep uninterrupted. I'm surprised they would put you on a gate by yourself that is this busy.

    1. I was holding on that's how I strained /sprained the wrist. I too go down sideways. It has been slow yesterday and today. I got a few hours a couple of times last night.
I asked for a 12 hour gate, but they didn't have any, so I said that I would try to do this one. Since I'm getting to know some of the guys by sight, sometimes I don't even have to get out of the trailer.

    1. The job itself is easy. Getting enough sleep is the hard part. That's why they usually hire couples. I have a sister who I have my mail forwarded to, who can pick up things if I need them. Sometimes I can get one of the guys to fill my water bottles or get me ice. I stocked up on the food part before I got here.

    1. I actually did, a bit of road rash (didn't even know that I did it at the time) and did a number on my glasses, they are all out of wack and need to be straightened. Fortuanately, since I worked at VSP I have a lot of glasses that work.

  6. Oh Susan, I feel so bad for you! I mostly follow your blog quietly, but I was so upset to think of you trying to maneuver stairs while still asleep - ugh!

I hope your wrist heals soon and I hope you get some sleep!

  7. Glad you got the gate job you were wanting. Hopefully time will fly by and then you can hit the road again at a more leisurely pace.I did start a blog after talking to you. I am only going to update it while traveling. Our next trip will start in June. We are getting a little stir crazy at home but have some commintments before heading out. Our little blog is Texastaylortravels.blogspot.com

    1. Congratulations on starting your blog. It's fun and informative, and great when you meet old friends that you haven't met "face to face", but you know them through their blog.
Now if I can get a 12 hour gate it would be better, but if not this will do.
